I’m a man of many hats but under each one is the shiny head of a dedicated filmmaker. I produce, write, direct, and edit… but you’re also gonna see me running auditions, location scouting, navigating bureaucracies,  and occasionally schlepping sandbags. I’m a scrappy problem-solver and a focused taskmaster when productions need to magic. I tailor the right projects to my clients, manage budgets, hire the best crews, strategize contingencies, and never forget the artistry. I’ve got the experience to know how things run and the wisdom to know when to call for help. After nearly 30 years in this game, I’ve just about got it figured out.

Transvideo Studios

Picturelab/Transvideo Studios has occupied most of Dave’s career, starting in 2006. Transvideo Studios was the largest video production studio in the South Bay for much of its 37-year existence, serving as the production and broadcast hub for many of Silicon Valley’s biggest companies. It housed the largest independent sound stage north of Hollywood. In 2008, Transvideo became Google's de facto internal video team, with most of its 75 employees working directly on the Mountain View campus. Initially hired as an editor, Dave was appointed as a special liaison to Google’s management team, overseeing the distribution of projects to various Transvideo teams at Google. He also directed several projects that became some of the most viewed videos created at Google.

Picturelab

Picturelab was founded in 2010 as the creative design agency of Transvideo Studio, catering to small and mid-sized companies that traditional advertising agencies priced out. Dave was a member of the original Picturelab team and served as a producer for most of their early projects. Picturelab had a significant impact in pioneering the explainer video genre in both animation and live-action. As the team grew, Dave hired and managed incoming talent, including editors, designers, animators, directors, and producers. Eventually, Dave was named Studio Vice President, overseeing the creative and post-production teams, while also serving as Senior Producer and scriptwriter on most live-action and animation projects.

In 2017, the owner of Transvideo Studios sold the company to Dave and his partner Alex Park. Dave and Alex renamed the company Picturelab and focused on the creative design goals that had defined Picturelab. In addition to producing, Dave became the primary writer and director of most of Picturelab’s projects. In 2021, Picturelab was approached by an existing client to produce a Super Bowl commercial. Dave pitched them a concept that they loved but, when the VFX budget was scoped, it was out of their range. So, Dave decided to scale down the project and utilize in-camera tricks as a running gag. The commercial aired and, ironically, was such a success that the client was able to afford a big agency for their Super Bowl commercial the following year. Dave continues to write, produce, and direct for Picturelab in addition to running the company with his partner.

Dave is a commercial producer, writer & director working in Silicon Valley.
